Welcome to the Gauteng Tooling Initiative
As a dedicated developmental agency of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development for the tool, die-, and mould-making sector (as well as product specific manufacturing equipment), the Gauteng Tooling Initiative (GTI) operates in support of the manufacturing sector – particularly those based within the Gauteng province. The GTI is tasked by GDED and the TDM industry sector with special developmental type projects aimed at the enhancement and expansion of capacity within the toolmaking sector in support of local manufacturing.
The focus lies primarily on securing on-the-job training (OJT) for TDM practices, enterprise development with the focus on EMEs (Emerging Manufacturing Enterprises) in the TDM sector in support of the government’s aims at BBBEE SMME development and the radical transformation of various townships. From time to time the GTI explores other developmental projects (i.e. off grid rural factories) but it is always in support of the objectives of the GDED goals. These include projects related to the development of entrepreneurs and other EMEs that required personal business coaching support.
To be the leading implementation entity in Gauteng of solutions for the local tool die and mould-making sector to enable optimal development and growth to international competitive standards in support of the automotive component, packaging and general manufacturing tooling and production capability needs.
The Mission of the Gauteng Tooling Initiative, in pursuit of its Vision, is to provide innovative, customised solutions:
To develop and create local capacity in the Tool Die and Mould-making, and Precision machining sector to assist the sector to achieve global competitive standards of excellence. This will be done by supporting and maintaining a pipeline of skilled technical people entering the sector, driving and leading the implementation of international best practice, encouraging and leading clustering of the EMEs to enable them to compete effectively, assisting in the re-capitalisation activities and developing shared services for the sector.
Continuous, personal and intense communication with the TDM industry in Gauteng is the method we use to foster industry participation.
